Take care when lifting or carrying a Skeleton telephone

Hopefully the attached pictures will be self explanatory; 

 

The black painted wooden "Turret" that holds the handset cradle on these telephones is not particularly strong and the phone will weigh about 5Kg. The turret is held onto the Ebonite deck with only three wood screws. I see many phones that have had the screws pull out of the timber if the phone has been lifted by the cradle and this always results in serious wiring damage. Repairing and strengthening the timber is pretty straightforward, but getting to it is awkward; and repairing the possible damage to the induction coil wiring is quite difficult.
