When the telephone
became such an important part of everyday life, it was natural that children
wanted to play at telephone calls. Toy telephones have been around for a hundred
years, and some collectors will specialise in this area.
Above
- Typical 1930's, 1940's and 50's telephone toys from the US and UK. The
Stromberg Carlson bell receiver is pictured to show the relative size.
Below
left - from the same era, the obvious similarity with the Stromberg Carlson
"Fat Boy", and the blue handset is actually a baby's rattle. Below
right - a toy candlestick and another with a more European appearance.
Above
left - A very handmade toy wall phone and to the right, the US, "Ranch
Phone"..
Below
- the blue toy phone from the 1830's when telephones were almost exclusively
black - kids demanded colour earlier than the parents.
Above
- A toy telephone (intercom) set made in France in the 1940's or 50's, in
excellent condition.
Below
- Would you believe the condition of this toy set from the British
"Chad Valley" toy company. It even has the original "40ft of wire".
Manufactured by GEC in the UK. This would have been made in the 1930's
or 40's, making it around 70 years old.
Obviously
only driven on Sundays by very careful "kids at heart".
